about Psychedelics and Rites of Passage |
This year we are offering:
Preparation and Reincorporation (any psychedelic) Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (January 2024 - June 2024: begin your preparation journey now!) A powerful tool to access comprehensive brain change and transformational experiences is finally coming into the mainstream of modern psychiatry. Psychedelics are one of the classic tools for a rite of passage. It is critical, however, that these tools are used appropriately. As with all rites of passage, psychedelics should be used with appropriate preparation, set and setting, and reintegration practices. Of the many psychedelics available: Currently, ketamine is legal and FDA approved. However, in most forms ketamine is considered 'off-label' for use in mental health, because it was approved for use as an anesthetic. The exception is a proprietary formulation of ketamine know as S-ketamine, esketamine, or Spravato, which has been FDA approved specifically for treatment-resistant depression. Spravato is not necessarily superior to Ketamine (watch the information session video for background on Spravato). Ketamine can be administered in low doses, in which a person has more access to their ego and is able to talk, but has increased insight and plasticity. Ketamine can also be administered in high doses, in which a person has access to a full psychedelic experience. Ketamine can also be used with or without active facilitation during the session. When a therapist is there to prepare you, sit with you during, and debrief you from your ketamine sessions, this is ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP). I am offering both low-dose ("Psycholytic") and high-dose ("Psychedelic") KAP during Jan-June 2024. MDMA has completed Phase Three FDA trials and is in the process of becoming re-scheduled and released. Look for MDMA to become available some time in 2024 or 2025. It will likely be released with a very specific treatment protocol. In Vivo Ecopsychology will work to implement and make this modality available as soon as it becomes available. Psilocybin is in the process of Phase Three FDA trials. However, psilocybin has also been independently legalized at the state level in Oregon and Colorado. You can travel to Oregon for a facilitated psilocybin experience. Opportunities for psilocybin experiences may become available to out-of-state travelers in several more states in the coming years. Other substances like Ayahuasca and Ibogaine are used in other cultures, and are available legally in other countries. Based on Maryland and West Virginia laws, only KAP can be offered in-house during the 2023-2024 treatment year. However, if you are planning to explore psychedelics for personal healing or mental health through an out-of-state or out-of-country avenue, you can sign up for preparation, reintegration, and treatment-supported rite of passage sessions, groups, and activities. Transformational experiences are only as valuable as your ability to bring the insights, wisdom, and changes that they provide home to transform your daily life. |
